This piece, “connect.” paints the Asian American experience. It is the story of my parents and brother leaving Viet Nam to find a better future. It is the story of the American-born Vietnamese child who constantly feels between worlds as she seeks out her identity. It is that same girl returning to her parent's country for the first time (hence the cityscape resembling the fortress surrounding the Imperial City of Huế and the breathtaking scenery in Ninh Bình).

In the eyes of someone born in America, it’s reaching for a sense of belonging no matter where you go.
